Mary Beth Chapman is the wife of Grammy and Dove Award winning recording artist, Steven Curtis Chapman.  Steven and Mary Beth have been married for 25 years and have six children, including three little girls adopted from China.  They met in college after being assigned the same mailbox because they had the same last name.  (Mary Beth’s maiden name was Chapman.)

For years the Chapman family had strongly supported friends and organizations who were involved in adoption, but they had no idea how much their role would grow.  Mary Beth never dreamed she’d adopt a child, let alone one from so far away.  In fact, she was the lone dissenter for most of the two-and-a-half-year campaign daughter Emily staged to get her parents to adopt a baby from overseas.  Once Mary Beth got on board with the adoption though, she did so with zeal.

Touched and forever transformed by the miracle of adoption, Steven and Mary Beth began the non-profit organization, Show Hope (originally named Shaohannah’s Hope after their first adopted daughter).  The ministry is dedicated to caring for the world’s forgotten and abandoned children by providing financial assistance to families wishing to adopt, as well as helping bring awareness and funnel resources to the ongoing needs of orphans both domestically and internationally. She serves as president, and together she and Steven promote adoption awareness and legislation.

After adopting Shaohannah in 2000, the Chapmans followed suit in 2002 by adopting Stevey Joy and then Maria Sue in 2004.  Tragically, Maria was accidentally killed when she was struck by an SUV in the Chapman’s driveway in May 2008.  The family has gone on to share their story of deep sorrow and renewed hope with the world through interviews with People Magazine, Good Morning America and Larry King Live.
