Palmetto State Quartet (PSQ) is one of the longest running groups in Gospel Music.  Since 1946 this group has been known for having one of the best sounding quartets in the industry.  Some of the most recognized singers in Gospel Music have been part of this legendary group during their distinguished careers.  However in 2008, the sound and vision for Palmetto State broadened when Larry Strickland acquired the group.  Strickland is known for his time singing bass with J.D. Sumner and The Stamps during the early 1970’s when the group toured regularly with Elvis Presley.  Larry was part of taking the Southern Gospel sound to a world-wide audience during his time with Elvis and he saw first-hand how that vast audience loved it.  In the 1980’s, Larry took time off from the road to manage his wife’s career (Naomi Judd) as the Judds reigned at the top of Country Music.  When you have the love and passion for quartet music along with the experience of managing a global act like the Judds, the end result can be nothing less than spectacular for Palmetto State and Southern Gospel Music.

Larry has not only put together some of the best singers in Gospel Music to make up Palmetto State Quartet.  Hehas also been successful in once again taking this dynamic sound and message to a world stage when the group sang back up for the Judds during their 2010 “Reunion Tour” which was part of the television show “The Judds” which aired on the OWN network.  When you do something on that scale, the group absolutely has to be the best that it can be in order to represent this genre and our message to the world.

Larry Strickland used the same role model that J.D. Sumner and The Stamps used by assembling a group that brings something distinctive to the stage.  David Staton, was long time vocalist for the LeFevre Quartet and is a well known Grammy nominated songwriter.  Not only is he an arranger and producer, he also brings a definitive vocal sound to PSQ.  Jeremy Easley, who was in the top 15 in his category during the 2011 season of the X-Factor, is proof that the best singers in the world are the ones who sing this great music.  Casey Martin, who has played keyboards for artists such as Karen Wheaton, Ivan Parker, Wynonna Judd and others, adds an element of Jazz and Black Gospel to the Palmetto State sound.  DaRon Maughon, son of a minister, has served as drummer/vocalist for the Lanny Wolfe trio, Worship Pastor, songwriter, arranger, vocal producer and Soloist artist, What makes these individual members extraordinary are not their past accomplishments, but their focus on the God they serve and sing about along with their genuine love for the people who hear it.  When you see Palmetto State, it’s more than a concert, it’s an experience!
